2026 Annual Meeting and Awards Making Connections at the Annual Business Meeting!
All divisions must hold a business meeting to inform their membership of key activities, review the financial and membership status of the division, and connect to the general membership.
The HMDR Division hosts its annual meeting online, rather than at NPC, to maximize participation. All are welcome, whether you're a student, volunteer, or regular member. We also invite members to submit professional accomplishments so we can celebrate success together.
This year's meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 6 PM ET.

The Annual Business Meeting also includes the presentation of the HMDR Division Awards:
- Kenneth C. Topping Planning Innovation Award: This award will honor the best new approach to solving a hazard mitigation, disaster recovery, or resilience problem within the past two years.
- Adrian Freund Lifetime Achievement Award: This will honor the most outstanding overall career achievement regarding hazard mitigation, disaster recovery, climate adaptation, and resilience for a veteran planner.
- Jennifer Ellison Distinguished Service Award: This is our longest-standing award and honors exceptional volunteer service to the Division. It is nominated/awarded by the Executive Committee.

NPC26 Reception
Please join the American Planning Association's Hazard Mitigation and Disaster Recovery Division for our annual reception on April 27, 2026 in Detroit. Connect with old colleagues and meet new ones at Two James Spirits in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood. Ticket includes a drink, snacks, and an optional craft spirits tasting and distillery tour.
Members and non-members alike are welcome! Member tickets are $8 and non-members are $15. Plus-ones are welcome but each person needs to register so we have an accurate registration list.
