Our Division Hazard Mitigation and Disaster Recovery Division
The Hazard Mitigation and Disaster Recovery Planning Division represents planners who work to reduce disaster risk and support communities as they recovery from disaster events, no matter the size. We foster professional development, skill-building, communications about how to plan before, during, and after disasters.
Any person or organization with an interest in hazard mitigation or disaster recovery planning may join the Division. We have a broad and diverse membership across sectors, geographies, and demographics.
Interested individuals can join the HMDR Division, even without being an APA member. By paying dues, individuals receive membership services, but may not vote on any Division business unless they are paying members of APA. The membership of the Division is diverse, including planners from all 50 states, the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and 25 other nations.
As of April 2026, interested parties can only join the Division at the time of annual dues renewal. The ability to join as a non-member and to join multiple divisions for a fee will reopen in Summer 2026.
